(Allahummagh-fir lee ma qaddamtu, wama akhkhart, wama asrartu wama aAAlant, wama asraftt, wama anta aAAlamu bihi minnee, antal-muqaddimu wa-antal-mu-akhkhiru la ilaha illa ant.)
O Allah, forgive me for those sins which have come to pass as well as those which shall come to pass, and those I have committed in secret as well as those I have made public, and where I have exceeded all bounds as well as those things about which You are more knowledgeable. You are Al-Muqaddim and Al-Mu-akhkhir. None has the right to be worshipped except You.

Context & meaning
Forgiveness is asked for once, and the wording then works to leave nothing outside it. Sins are divided by time — what has come to pass and what is still to come. They are divided again by visibility, what was committed in secret and what was made public. A third pair covers excess, where all bounds were exceeded, then hands over the remainder: those things about which You are more knowledgeable. Two of His names close it, Al-Muqaddim and Al-Mu-akhkhir, followed by the declaration that none has the right to be worshipped except Him.
When & how to recite
This belongs to the words said after the final Tashahhud, before the prayer is brought to an end.
Reflection
Each pair closes a gap the previous one left open. The last category is not defined by the speaker at all — it is left to His knowledge, covering whatever the earlier divisions failed to name.
About these notesThe notes above explain the wording of the supplication as it is translated on this page. They add no commentary, history or ruling beyond it.
